Use Essential Oils with Care

Essential oils should be handled with caution. Regardless of the fact that essential oils are sweet-smelling and harmless looking in nature, let me tell you that the most exotic-looking creatures are usually the most dangerous.

Essential oils are like any chemical substance and should be handled with care. Before using any essential oil ensure it is safe to use.

Some general guidelines for using essential oil are:

  • Do not ingest orally except in cases of possible prescription and in such cases, stick strictly to the dose and brand.
  • Never apply it directly to the skin in its raw undiluted form. Always ensure that the oil is at least diluted using carrier oils like coconut oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, sesame etc.
  • Ensure that it is safe to use around pregnant women, babies, young children, adults and pets, while breastfeeding etc.
  • Cross-check for all possible side effects for the oil of choice and be prepared for first aid measures if anything ever goes wrong.

Essential oil of a plant is obtained usually by steam distillation. This shouldn’t be confused with the oils of the same plant, which is extracted by cold press method. Essential oils usually have a volatile quality that is bestowed upon them due to the method of extraction.

That said, essential oils are magnificent and should be given a try if you want to experience a host of benefits at an affordable rate.
